Embakasi East MP Babu Owino strongly defended comedian and activist Eric Omondi following his arrest at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
Speaking at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi, Babu Owino criticized the state's prosecution, describing the allegations against Omondi as a "political higi-haga" born out of a "crinkum-crankum nature" intended to paint the activist in a bad light.
Omondi faced charges of obstructing traffic and creating a disturbance during recent public demonstrations protesting rising fuel prices.
Appearing before Principal Magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo, Omondi pleaded not guilty and was successfully released on a Ksh 100,000 personal bond.
The court also ordered the immediate return of his confiscated electronic devices. The matter is set for further directions on June 22, 2026.
